1st State Bank of Mason City

About Us

In 1976 a group of local businessmen and interested citizens met to discuss the formation of a new bank. A state charter was issued in November 1976 to the 1st State Bank of Mason City and business was started in a downtown building formerly Cunningham Insurance Agency until a new bank building was built. In 1978 the bank moved into its permanent home at 123 W. Elm St.

After a stockholder transition in 1983, Allen Blessman became President until his retirement in 2001 and Carl Biedenharn was elected Chairman and held this office until his move to Florida in 1986. Henry Kendall was elected Chairman and on his death in 1993 Roger Brooks became Chairman. In 2002, the directors determined it appropriate to apply for a holding company and FirState Bancorp, Inc. was chartered and established as parent company and 1st State Bank of Mason City its only subsidiary.
